World is where The Light looked past East McMillan Street. Between 2013 and 2023 the section ran 94 stories, and the busiest stretch came in 2015 to 2017, when the paper covered the Paris attacks, the war in Syria and a presidential election that split the opinion page in two. The writers were high school students working from news reports and the occasional interview, so the stories show what a Cincinnati teenager knew and asked at the time.

Some of them have turned into history. The 2014 report on the disappearance of Flight MH370 still ends without a plane, and 219 Girls, Gone Two Years Too Long counts the Chibok schoolgirls still missing in 2016. Local news counts as world news here as well: Harambe, the streetcar and the city council arrests are all in this section, and the long history of scouting, written after the Boy Scouts opened to girls, is its longest story.
