Education

Schedules, classes, tests, college applications and the long-running arguments about how school should work, reported from inside the building on East McMillan Street.

Education is the smallest of the six sections, 34 stories from 2014 to 2023, and the most practical. Students wrote about the school they were sitting in: flipped classes, the August 15 start date, Turnitin, career round tables, the senior budget simulation. A second strand follows the road out of high school, from gap years and ACT tips to a socially distanced tour of Oberlin in the fall of 2020.

The arguments are worth reading for their own sake. Homework: Less Is More or More Is Less? reports a Debate Club meeting and lets a math teacher defend nightly problem sets. The Infamous Fact Checker asks why Turnitin works for English papers and not for math. After the Ohio State attack in 2016, #BuckeyeStrong turned a story about lockdown drills into one about a campus up I-71 in Columbus. The most recent stories, from 2022 and 2023, lean toward college advice from seniors and a look at historically Black colleges and universities.
