Health + Science

Sleep, stress, caffeine, climate and the occasional dinosaur. Science and wellness pieces written by students for students.

Health + Science ran 59 stories, and its subjects changed with the students who wrote them. The early pieces, from 2013 to 2016, take on vegetarian diets, the Bill Nye and Ken Ham debate held just across the river in Kentucky, and the Cincinnati Zoo's Sumatran rhino program in the week Harapan left for Sumatra.

By 2018 the section had moved toward sleep, stress and screens, usually with a school survey behind the numbers. Dawgs Gotta Sleep? uses one to show how often homework keeps students up late. The pandemic years added COVID myths and mental health at college, and the climate stories kept coming, many of them out of the AP Environmental Science class. The longest piece is a close look at factory farms from 2019. For something lighter, Living Dinosaurs explains how feathered fossils turned the scaly T. rex into a cousin of the birds at the feeder. These are student articles, not medical advice, and some statistics are as old as the stories.
